It is often said that music is a universal
language. Kent Olive brings a style to his music that is full of
surprizes, and offers up certain mystery that lends itself to the
universality of all listeners. Listeners will find themselves
launched into musical vistas that will evoke many different
emotions. It is possible to hear the intricate simplicity of his
music translate into a beautiful and peaceful moment.
Kent's strengths lie within the instrumental ballad, which
provide a window into his awareness and sensitivity. Kent adds
arresting contrasts to every piece he plays with superior
compositional skills. Listeners will marvel at the display of
beautiful melodies and fluid harmonic contrasts. His beautiful
interpretation of harmony and dynamics becomes crystal clear in
his title work Bread for the
Journey.
Kent gets much of his inspiration from his classical upbringing,
and his 15 year tenure as a jazz improvisational player. His
transistion between classical and jazz is remarkably seamless and
powerful in all of his pieces, especially in May Awakening.
The two forces have been joined to blend into one immensley
gorgeous mosaic.
Every characteristic of his music breathes easily. Take Egyptian
Garden for example. The way he moves through the most
interesting of chord changes is indicative of the musical
consciousness that he is most willing to share.
His musical skills seem fixed on reaching into our souls and
uncovering the music we all keep locked within ourselves. You will
undoubtedly be moved by this superb music.
